 “Mutant  Aesthetics”

(Transforming Aesthetics)

This project represents the development of a series that I call Mutant Aesthetics, which began two years ago.

This production follows another series called Aesthetic Fusion, that consisted of the production of black structures, built by stringing wooden centrings. Aesthetic Fusion was itself the prosecution of the shaped canvas technique, that I begun early in the eighties.

With the Mutant Aesthetics series I had introduced an intermediate element between environment and sculpture, represented by white walls, giving body and shape to the visual/spatial interval between sculpture and environment in the exhibition space.

This present project, is part of a new Mutant Aesthetic phase, in which I have put together sculpture and white walls in a single geometrical structure, made of metallic colour wood and rope.

In this way the internal pillar is surrounded by an architecture which separates it from the environmental space.

This change is in response to the conceptual development of my present defensive perspective of the work of art, leading my sculptures to an interruption of harmony between work of art and exhibition surroundings.
